Hutchinson enters the cycling market with long-proven belt-drive experience and a system designed for durability and high loads. Crossdyn delivers a fully integrated, easy-to-implement solution for OEMs.

Hutchinson is best-known for its tire range, and now the French manufacturer is moving into new ground in cycling with the release of its Crossdyn Belt Drive System. It may be the first time that the company has produced a cycling belt, but Hutchinson has a long history of manufacturing belt drive systems across a variety of industries—it has been producing belts and components in France since 1965.
“The launch of Crossdyn is more than a new product; it’s the transfer of decades of automotive and industrial expertise into the cycling world,” said Vincent Boucher, product development manager at Hutchinson, during a visit at their booth at Eurobike. “We didn’t just want to create another belt; we wanted to create a complete, reliable system.”
The patented, innovative belt architecture uses high-performance, molded rubber, synchronous teeth, and the belt is designed to handle high-torque applications, such as electric mountain bikes. The belt uses a central V-shaped rib to make the system self-centering, and the design means there’s no need for flanges on the sprockets, which can trap dirt and affect performance.
Hutchinson is launching Crossdyn as a complete system for OEMs, with belts, sprockets and system accessories. It will also offer engineering support, including collaborative design, simulation and system validation to enable OEMs to easily integrate the new drivetrain. The first bike to feature the Crossdyn belt is the new Montmartre extralight urban e-bike from French manufacturer Origine.
