SD Components: The Seatpost Manufacturer Shows Fresh Designs

Taiwan-based S.D. Components Ltd showed innovative one- and two-arm seatposts paired with a shock-absorbing stem at Eurobike this year.

“The SD-475N suspension seat post makes alteration of the load easy through adjusting the bottom nut,” explained Hector Wu, sales representative for S.D. Components Ltd. “We use an integrated design for the tube body, which not only looks better, but is also lighter while maintaining strength. The post can support riders between 60 and 120kg and is suitable for e-bikes and cargo-bikes.”

The SD-477 suspension model is a simplified version of the SD-475N with just one suspension arm rather than two. Similarly to the latter, the load can be easily adjusted by tweaking the bottom nut, and the integrated tube design is more attractive, lighter and stronger. It can also support riders between 60 and 120kg and also suits e-bikes and cargo-bikes.

The SD-417 shock-absorbing seatpost is made for gravel, city and e-bikes and uses natural rubber to absorb external impact. “The design is inspired by an automobile and motorcycle chassis bushing process,” said Wu. “It combines two types of rubber with different hardness in one structure, where the rubber hardness can be switched at any time, so no need to worry about losing parts,” he said. The SD-356 shock-absorbing stem uses the same natural rubber components and shares the same advantages as the SD-417.

S.D. Components Ltd. started in 1994 by manufacturing seatposts. “Simply put, we are a design company with our own assembly line, but the processing part is outsourced,” said Wu. “In 2009, we started to develop functional seatposts, such as mechanical dropper seatposts and shock-absorber seatposts under the newly established TMARS brand, with the key aim of developing products that deliver both comfort and experience to riders. Our advantage and what makes the company special is our excellent development team that is highly experienced in designing and producing high-quality and cost-effective products.”

While suspension seatposts are the current focus of product development, TMARS continues to produce a number of staple products, including standard seatposts with innovative clamping mechanisms, which many brands use on an OEM basis. Examples include an Al 6061, 15mm offset, 300-600mm in length, weighing 300g, or a lighter zero-offset 3D-forged version with 300, 350, or 400mm lengths at 262g. Al 7075 models include the ultra-light SD-436.8, with a patented design for easy installation. The company also manufactures a range of post adapters from 13g to 26g.

They also offer 11 types of stems, including Al 6061, Al 2014 3D-forged, as well as 356.2 alloy consisting of aluminum, silicon and magnesium, Al 6061 and Al 7075 handlebars and three types of handlebar baskets.
